The Role:

We're looking for a digitally focused strategic mind who has spent years in SEO and/or AEO, and emerged with something rare: the ability to translate business goals into online presence, connect traditional and AI-driven search, and lead enterprise-level search and optimization projects in a client-facing role.

At Edgar Allan, we call this space Visibility Engineering: helping brands not just be found, but understood and chosen, by both humans and the AI systems increasingly making decisions on their behalf.

This person will report to the VP of Brand Strategy & Performance, work with our brand, SEO, AEO, and CRO teams, and lead and develop our search/SEO team. This role is rooted in SEO - its craft, strategy, and evolution - and expands from there into the emerging landscape of AI-driven discovery.

What you'll do

Lead search strategy across SEO, AEO, and enterprise-level search and optimization engagements 

  • Translate client business goals and brand positioning into actionable SEO/AEO/GEO strategy, and lead projects that include this type of work.
  • Define content opportunities, surface authority gaps, identify competitive positioning, and connect it all to outcomes clients care about. 
  • Lead visibility audits and discovery that shapes the overall digital direction of an engagement.

Elevate our search practice 

  • Manage and mentor EA's unified search team, and raise the bar on how we think about and execute on both traditional and emerging search: what questions we ask, what insights we surface, and what recommendations we make. 
  • Help move SEO from reactive and tactical to proactive and business-aligned and integrate it with AEO/GEO.

Bridge SEO, AEO, and content 

  • Partner with our AEO team to align traditional search and AI-driven discovery into an integrated approach to visibility and authority. 
  • Collaborate with our VP of Brand Strategy to ensure search and optimization strategy reflects brand narrative and market reality.

Own the strategic voice in client work 

  • Lead enterprise-level projects in a client-facing role
  • Lead discovery sessions with clients.
  • Turn conversations into insight and deliver recommendations that connect search performance to business outcomes.
  • Help with pitches where search strategy is a primary value driver.

Contribute to practice development 

  • Bring a distinct POV on where search is going, what it means for our clients, and how we work.
  • Help evolve EA's search and optimization offerings in the context of AEO, AI-driven discovery, and modern buyer behavior. 
  • Contribute to new business where it's relevant.

What we're looking for

You likely have deep roots in search - technical SEO, content strategy for search, digital strategy at a high level, a few wins shaping AEO for large clients - but you've grown past the point where rankings are the end goal. You think in terms of business outcomes, audience intent, competitive positioning, and brand alignment. You can run a discovery session, write a strategic brief, lead a project, and present to a CMO without coaching.

If you've been thinking seriously about how brands show up in our new digital world, and know what it takes to create success and growth for clients, this is your gig.

Specifically, we’re looking for:

  • 8-10+ years in SEO, search strategy, or digital strategy; agency experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects at an enterprise level and connect strategy to business outcomes. Bring receipts.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members
  • Strong foundation in technical SEO and content strategy for search (or an equivalent field with a focus on strategic output, not just report generation)
  • Comfort in client-facing settings: discovery, presentations, and difficult conversations
  • A person with a working understanding of AEO and AI-driven search, and a clear POV on how SEO and answer engine optimization are converging 
  • Familiarity or experience in CRO is a bonus
  • Ability to work at minimum, a four-hour overlap with the Eastern time zone. (GMT-5) This is a fully remote position.

A note on fit

This role isn't traditional SEO, marketing, or GTM, and we're not looking for someone who wants it to be. If your best work focuses on audit templates and keyword matrices, or marketing automation, this probably isn't the right next step. But if you've been frustrated that search strategy is treated as a tactical function or that SEO as a discipline is lagging in stepping up to the plate in an AI-driven search world - and you want to be the person who changes that - we want to talk to you.
